Happy New Year! While this can be a time to challenge yourself to make healthier changes and choices. It can be exciting to try new things and ways to improve your health, but one idea for a resolution can be taking the time to learn and know your medication regimen.
Yes! I mean the medications you ALREADY take. What medications you take, how they are taken/prescribed, administration, what they look like (tablet/ capsule/ color/ etc)/ what are they for.
- Get everything out of your medicine cabinet/ anywhere else you may have medications (make sure to do this safely away from little ones or pets)
- Organize the medications in front of you, make sure everything is there and in date*
- Use an app in your phone or piece of paper to write down what you take, how you take it, and why you take it
- Keep this medication list with you and be sure to update it as medications are added/changed.
While this may be overwhelming at first, your PeopleOne Pharmacist is here to help you! If you have questions, be sure to reach out to your PeopleOne Pharmacist, your pharmacist, or your PeopleOne provider.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What if I find medications that I no longer need or are expired?
A: Some medications can be safely disposed of in a closed trash can, but others can be dangerous if simply thrown away. The best thing to do is to take your expired medications to a drug take back center, can be a participating pharmacy or police station and ensure the medications are disposed of.
Q: So I found a medication that I don’t know how to take (injection or inhaler), what do I do?
A: You can call your PeopleOne Pharmacist and they can help you review the recommended administration. Some manufacturers will have administration videos online that can also be helpful resources- but be sure this is the website of the manufacturer.
